This student work is considered high performing because the student correctly answered each mini lab question. Although the answers were not in complete sentences, they still conveyed to me that the student really understood what was happening during each mini lab. Each chemical reaction was correctly and completely written in the form of a balanced chemical equation, which shows that the student understands and is able to write correct chemical formulas, and correctly apply the law of conservation of mass. The explanation was well-written and considered high performing because the student followed the directions. The explanation discussed what occurred at each mini lab, and how that linked to the correct type of chemical reaction. The student did not just summarize what happened during the labs, but provided an analysis of each lab and made connections to the concept of classifying chemical reactions.
